In the late hours of a Monday night in Paterson, New Jersey, the sound of gunfire shattered the quiet on East 25th Street. It was March 28, 2016, when 39-year-old Genny Rivas, a male resident of nearby Passaic, was fatally shot. Police responded to reports of shots fired shortly before midnight, discovering Rivas unconscious and unresponsive outside a residence in the 400 block of East 25th Street. He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
