In the winter of 2018, a young man's life came to a tragic end in a quiet corner of Clifton, New Jersey. Morad Awad, a 24-year-old male, was discovered in his Nissan Maxima on the morning of Saturday, December 29th, at the BP gas station on Route 3. He was found unresponsive in the driver's seat of the vehicle, which he had been using for shelter as he was recently homeless.
Authorities were called to the scene around 11 a.m. to investigate the report of an unresponsive person. Upon their arrival, they found Mr. Awad deceased. He had sustained an apparent gunshot wound to the head.
Medical personnel officially pronounced him dead at the gas station.
The initial investigation conducted by the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office suggested that the wound was self-inflicted. While the matter was treated as an active criminal investigation pending an official autopsy to determine the final manner of death, law enforcement officials stated that they were not seeking any suspects. They also assured the public that there was no ongoing danger related to the incident.
