In a tragic turn of events on a late Saturday night in March 2019, a Barnegat, New Jersey family was irrevocably changed. James M. Hammer, Sr., a 46-year-old male, was at his home when a firearm he was disassembling accidentally discharged. His wife placed a call to emergency services, reporting a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Responders arrived at the Gunning River Road residence to find Mr. Hammer critically injured.
