In the early morning hours of September 22, 2019, the life of 26-year-old Diamond Robinson was tragically cut short in her Bayonne, New Jersey apartment. A female, Robinson was found by police responding to a report of a domestic violence incident at approximately 5:10 a.m. at a residence on John F. Kennedy Boulevard. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Robinson unresponsive, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene just twenty minutes later.
Within an hour of the police being called, a suspect was in custody. Anthony Shuler, a 28-year-old from Jersey City at the time, was apprehended by the Bayonne Police Department. An investigation revealed that Shuler was known to be a frequent visitor to Robinson's apartment. The incident was described as a domestic dispute that escalated to a fatal shooting.
A neighbor reported seeing Shuler run from the apartment and discovered Robinson in her bed with a gunshot wound to the face.
Shuler was subsequently charged with murder and several weapons offenses. In a turn of events that brought some measure of closure to Robinson's loved ones, Anthony Shuler pleaded guilty to the amended charge of first-degree aggravated manslaughter in August 2022. In January 2023, he was sentenced to 25 years in New Jersey State Prison for the killing of Diamond Robinson. The case was particularly notable as Shuler had been acquitted of a separate homicide charge just the year before his tragic encounter with Robinson.
