In the early morning hours of November 2, 2019, the life of 30-year-old Sirheen Walker was tragically cut short in Jersey City, New Jersey. Walker, a Black / African American male, was fatally shot in the area of Bergen and Lexington Avenues. The Jersey City Police Department responded to reports of gunfire in the vicinity around 12:30 a.m., but upon arrival, they found no victim at the scene.
It was later discovered that Walker had been privately transported to the Jersey City Medical
Center. Despite the efforts to save him, he succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at approximately 12:45 a.m. The Regional Medical Examiner's Office subsequently ruled his death a homicide.
The investigation into Walker's murder was a collaborative effort between the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department. For months, detectives worked to identify the person responsible for the fatal shooting. Their investigation led them to a suspect outside of New Jersey.
On February 28, 2020, a significant breakthrough was made in the case. With the assistance of the Baltimore County Police Department, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor's Homicide Unit arrested 35-year-old Tavon Parker in Windsor, Maryland. Parker, a resident of Baltimore, was charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon in connection with Sirheen Walker's death. Following his arrest, Parker was held in Maryland pending extradition to New Jersey to face the charges against him.
