June Chronic Huhn, a 73-year-old female, passed away on Friday, April 3, 2020, in her Long Branch, New Jersey, home. Early that morning, at approximately 12:51 a.m., law enforcement responded to a call concerning an unconscious and bleeding woman at a residence on Norwood Avenue. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mrs. Huhn on the floor with what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
Medical personnel were dispatched to the scene, but tragically, Mrs. Huhn was pronounced dead.
The following day, an autopsy was performed by the Middlesex County Regional Medical Examiner's Office, which determined that the cause of death was a single gunshot wound to the chest. The manner of death was subsequently ruled a suicide.
June Huhn was the wife of Philip Huhn, who formerly served as the mayor of Long Branch from 1982 to 1990. He was present at their home when the police arrived on the morning of his wife's death. The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, in conjunction with the Long Branch Police Department, conducted an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. As the death was determined to be a suicide, there were no arrests made or suspects identified in connection with the incident.
