On a summer day in Glassboro, New Jersey, the lives of two men were tragically cut short. On August 19, 2020, police conducted a wellness check at a residence on Warrick Avenue, leading to the discovery of 36-year-old Shantal Farrow and 26-year-old Manuel DelaRosa Jr., who were found deceased inside the home from gunshot wounds. Authorities quickly determined that the deaths were homicides and that the two men had been targeted. The initial investigation did not reveal a motive, leaving friends, family, and the community in search of answers. Farrow was remembered for his goofy nature and welcoming heart, a man who was always seen with a smile on his face and was known for making funny jokes. He worked at the café at Rowan University, where he had a wide range of friends.
The investigation into the double homicide was aggressive, as law enforcement sought to bring those responsible for the 'senseless acts of violence' to justice.
The Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office, along with the Glassboro Police Department, utilized cellphone data and street footage to piece together the events that led to the deaths of Farrow and DelaRosa. Their efforts led them to identify four suspects in connection with what they believed to be a 'botched robbery' involving cash and marijuana.
Within weeks of the discovery, four individuals were charged in the double homicide. The suspects were identified as Devon J. Conover, 19, of Trenton; Abdelgadi H. Hassan, 19, of Trenton; Daniel P. Hall, 23, of Teaneck; and Altaifjoe H. Hassan, 23, of Glassboro. The charges against them were extensive, including two counts each of murder, felony murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and robbery, as well as weapons offenses. One of the suspects, Altaifjoe H. Hassan, was a former Rowan University student. The apprehension of the suspects brought a sense of relief to the community, as the individuals believed to be responsible for the violent deaths of Shantal Farrow and Manuel DelaRosa Jr. were in custody.
