In the early morning hours of December 9, 2022, the life of 22-year-old Travon A. Barker-Bordley, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Glassboro, New Jersey. The incident unfolded at a residence on the 200 block of University Boulevard, a street not far from Rowan University. It was approximately 1:06 a.m. when the sound of gunshots pierced the night, prompting a call to the Glassboro Police Department.
Upon their arrival, officers entered the home and had to clear several occupants
from the residence to proceed with their investigation. Ascending to the second floor, they discovered Barker-Bordley in a bedroom, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Gloucester County Medical Examiner later conducted an autopsy, which confirmed that the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds and the manner of death was a homicide.
Despite the violent nature of the crime, the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office stated that they did not believe there was an ongoing threat to the public. They also clarified that the incident did not occur on the Rowan University campus and was not connected to the university.
