On a Friday night in Lindenwold, New Jersey, the sound of gunshots shattered the evening quiet on the 400 block of West Park Avenue. When the echoes faded, 25-year-old Alvin Redd, a male resident of the area, was left lying in the street, critically wounded. It was shortly after 8 p.m. on April 22, 2022, when police received multiple 911 calls and were dispatched to the scene of the shooting.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Redd suffering from a significant gunshot wound.
He was rushed to Jefferson Hospital-Stratford for emergency medical treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Alvin Redd succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased just before 9 p.m. that same evening. The investigation later revealed that another individual, a 29-year-old man from Camden, was also injured during a physical altercation connected to the shooting and had independently sought treatment at the same hospital.
In the days following the fatal shooting, investigators from the Camden County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Unit and the Lindenwold Police Department worked to identify who was responsible for Redd's death. Their investigation led them to 20-year-old Trayshawn Simpson of Camden. Less than a week after the incident, on April 27, 2022, Simpson was located and taken into custody in New Castle, Delaware. His arrest was a coordinated effort between the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force and the U.S. Marshals Service First State Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Following his apprehension, Trayshawn Simpson was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Alvin Redd. He was initially held in a correctional facility in Delaware, awaiting extradition to New Jersey to face the charges brought against him. The motive and the exact circumstances leading up to the violent encounter that ended Alvin Redd's life remained part of the ongoing investigation.
