On the evening of Friday, September 30, 2022, the life of 23-year-old Isaiah Shaw, a male with a promising future in the music industry, was tragically cut short. Known affectionately as 'DJ Zay,' he was working at the IAO recording studio on Egg Harbor Road in Lindenwold, New Jersey. A talented music producer, Isaiah was known for creating beats for aspiring local artists and was even beginning to compose music for films. His creative endeavors also included launching a clothing line to promote his entertainment brand.

That night, gunshots shattered the creative atmosphere of the studio. Police received a 9-1-1 call around 9:50 p.m. reporting that a person had been shot. Upon arrival, officers found Isaiah Shaw with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene in what his family would later describe as a senseless act of gun violence. The investigation quickly pointed to a colleague, 23-year-old Ronin Austin Nevels of Lindenwold.

The day after the shooting, the investigation led authorities to a residence in the neighboring Gloucester Township. The suspect, Ronin Nevels, had barricaded himself inside the home, leading to a tense standoff. The Gloucester Township Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiation Team were deployed to the scene. After a period of negotiation, Nevels surrendered to the police and was taken into custody without further incident.

Ronin Nevels was charged with first-degree murder and weapons offenses. Following a four-week trial, a jury found him guilty on July 31, 2025, of murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and criminal trespass. He is awaiting sentencing for the death of Isaiah Shaw.
