In the early morning hours of June 18, 2022, violence shattered the quiet of a Paterson, New Jersey street, leading to the untimely death of 34-year-old Tiheen Smith. At approximately 5:06 a.m., members of the Paterson Police Department were alerted that a man, later identified as Smith, had arrived at St. Joseph's Hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Despite medical efforts, Smith succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 12:22 p.m.
that day.
The subsequent investigation by law enforcement quickly pinpointed the location of the shooting to the area of 126 Pearl Street. Friends and family remembered Tiheen 'Coop' Smith, as he was affectionately known, while authorities worked to bring his killer to justice. The investigation into the fatal shooting progressed swiftly, leading to an arrest in the case just a day after the incident.
On June 19, 2022, authorities apprehended Trayshaun Harris, a 29-year-old resident of Paterson, in connection with the homicide. Harris was identified as the individual who fired the weapon that resulted in Smith's death. He was subsequently charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Following his arrest, Harris was taken into custody and is being held at the Passaic County Jail.
