In the late afternoon of September 27, 2022, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of a West Orange, New Jersey neighborhood, leaving a young man's life cut tragically short. Corington Valentin, a 21-year-old Black / African American male from Newark, was visiting the 100 block of Watson Avenue when violence erupted. Witnesses reported a harrowing scene where armed assailants appeared to have laid in wait, ambushing Valentin and another man as they exited a local bodega. The attack was described as a vicious and calculated act.

Responding to 911 calls from concerned residents around 3:23 p.m., police officers arrived to find a chaotic and grim situation. Valentin was discovered suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Corington Valentin was pronounced dead at 11:37 p.m. that same evening. A second male victim was also found at the scene with a gunshot wound, but he survived the brutal attack.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, in conjunction with the West Orange Police Department, immediately launched an intensive investigation into the brazen daylight shooting. Authorities later located an unoccupied vehicle in Newark that was believed to have been used by the suspects to flee the scene. The motive for the ambush and subsequent killing remains under investigation. As of the latest reports, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Corington Valentin, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The investigation is described as active and ongoing as law enforcement continues to seek answers and justice for a life taken too soon.
