Paul Lingnau, aged 62, was tragically murdered on March 12, 1984, in Royal Oak, Michigan. Lingnau was shot multiple times outside his apartment on the night of his 63rd birthday, as he was returning home from an evening out with his brother and sister-in-law. The gunman, later suspected to be Steven Steiner, emerged from the shadows and fired five shots at Lingnau before fleeing the scene.
