Julie A. Engelhardt, a dedicated police officer from Lansing, Michigan, tragically lost her life on February 12, 1988, at the age of 34. Officer Engelhardt was responding to a call from two boys who reported that a man had taken their sled near 624 E. Holmes Road. Upon confronting the suspect, Officer Engelhardt was shot and killed. Despite being critically wounded, she managed to return fire and wound the suspect.
