On a cold February day in 1988, Lansing, Michigan, lost a dedicated public servant. Julie A. Engelhardt, a 34-year-old officer with the Lansing Police Department, was tragically killed in the line of duty on February 12th. A veteran of the force for 14 years, Engelhardt was the first female officer in the city's history to be slain while serving her community.
