On November 14, 1991, Rosemarie "Rose" Cusimano Proos, a 33-year-old postal supervisor from Sterling Heights, Michigan, was tragically killed during a mass shooting at the Royal Oak Post Office. The perpetrator, 31-year-old former postal worker and ex-Marine Thomas McIlvane, entered the facility armed with a semiautomatic .22-caliber Ruger carbine and opened fire on his former colleagues.
