Kayla Renee Rolland, a six-year-old girl from Mount Morris Township, Michigan, tragically lost her life on February 29, 2000. She was fatally shot by her six-year-old classmate, Dedrick Owens, in their first-grade classroom at Buell Elementary School. The incident occurred when Dedrick brought a .32-caliber handgun to school, which he had found at his uncle's house. The house was known to be a crack house where guns were frequently traded for drugs.
