On October 28, 2005, a 20-year-old Black male named Devin McCain was found deceased in front of a two-family home in Jackson, Michigan. An investigation revealed that he had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head. The events that led to his death began with a dispute between McCain and a member of a local gang.
