In the fall of 2007, a domestic dispute tragically escalated, leading to the death of 38-year-old Ladora Gibson, a female from Sterling Heights, Michigan. The incident, which unfolded as a murder-suicide, also left her nine-year-old son injured.
Ladora had recently been staying with relatives due to troubles at home. The situation took a fatal turn when her husband, 41-year-old Anthony Gibson, an emergency medical technician, shot her while they were in a car on Detroit's east side at
the intersection of Kelly Road and Saratoga Street. Bullet fragments from the shooting also struck their young son, who was in the vehicle with them.
Following the shooting of his wife, Anthony Gibson became the subject of a manhunt that extended to Sterling Heights. Police, concerned that he might have barricaded himself inside their Wilmington Court residence, summoned a SWAT team to the home. However, they discovered that he was not there. The search for Anthony concluded in downtown Detroit the following morning, where he was found deceased in his vehicle from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The couple had more than one child, though the others were not present during the tragic events. Their injured son was taken to a local hospital and was expected to recover.
