On May 31, 2009, Chicago experienced a surge in violence, with seven men in their 20s and 30s fatally shot within a 24-hour period. Among the victims was 30-year-old Demond Stansbury, who was shot alongside two of his cousins; the cousins survived and were reported to be in fair condition. The shootings occurred across various parts of the city, including the North, South, and West sides. At the time, police had no suspects in custody, and investigations were ongoing.
