In the late spring of 2014, the life of Gregory Dequan Hodo, a 36-year-old Black man, was tragically cut short in his hometown of Flint, Michigan. On May 30, 2014, Hodo was shot in a store parking lot and subsequently succumbed to his injuries at Hurley Medical Center. Born in Flint on May 11, 1978, Gregory was known for his love of music and spending time with his family, often bringing laughter and joy to those around him.
The investigation into Hodo's violent death led authorities to
identify two brothers as the primary suspects. The Flint Police Department actively sought information on the whereabouts of Keonte Sadler and Marquel Sadler in connection with the homicide. Marquel Sadler eventually turned himself in to the authorities. The investigation culminated in the conviction of the two brothers for their roles in Gregory Hodo's death.
Both brothers were found guilty of second-degree murder, being felons in possession of a firearm, and felony firearm charges. The convictions brought a measure of resolution to a case that highlighted the persistent issue of gun violence in the community. Gregory Hodo was laid to rest at Sunset Hills Cemetery following a funeral service at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, leaving behind his children and a community to mourn his untimely passing.
