In the summer of 2016, a a tragedy struck the community of Buena Vista Township, Michigan, with the death of 17-year-old Joshua Javen Phillips. On the evening of July 26th, Joshua was discovered lying in the road in the 400 block of South 23rd Street, the victim of a fatal gunshot wound. His death was quickly ruled a homicide, launching an investigation by local law enforcement.
Joshua, who was born on July 9, 1999, was a student in the Saginaw Public Schools.
Remembered for a smile that could light up a room, he had a passion for basketball and playing video games. His sudden and violent death left his family and friends heartbroken and searching for answers. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and nephew whose absence created a significant void in the lives of those who knew him.
Despite the efforts of the Buena Vista Township Police Department, the investigation into Joshua's murder has been met with significant challenges. A lack of forthcoming witnesses and a scarcity of evidence have hampered progress in the case. To date, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with his killing. The case remains an open and unsolved homicide.
