In the winter of 2016, a botched robbery in Mount Clemens, Michigan, led to the tragic death of 44-year-old James Capizzo. On December 26th, Capizzo, a resident of nearby Clinton Township, was discovered lying in the snow outside a home with a gunshot wound to his head. He was rushed to the hospital and placed in critical condition, but succumbed to his injuries two days later on December 28th.
The investigation by the Macomb County Sheriff's Office quickly led to the identification of
three suspects. Believing the motive to be a robbery that had escalated, authorities arrested Christopher Rashawn Jones, 27, of Mount Clemens; Randy James Mahaffey, 27, of Clinton Township; and Ashley Lachell Redmond, 25, of Mount Clemens. The three were formally charged in connection with the crime.
Christopher Rashawn Jones faced the most severe charges, including felony murder, armed robbery, and two weapons-related counts. Randy James Mahaffey was charged with one count of armed robbery. Ashley Lachell Redmond was charged with being an accessory after the fact to a felony. Following their arraignment, Jones was held without bond, Mahaffey was given a $500,000 bond, and Redmond received a $5,000 personal bond.
