On a cold February day in Detroit, Michigan, a planned firearm exchange turned into a scene of deadly violence, claiming the life of 21-year-old Deonta Blinco. The tragic events unfolded on February 16, 2018, on Buena Vista Street, where Blinco and his friend, Javionne Trotter, had arranged to meet two other young men for a gun swap that had been organized over social media.
What was intended as a transaction quickly escalated into a fatal robbery.
Blinco and Trotter were driven to the meeting location by a friend, Larry Jackson. There, they met with 17-year-old David McNair and 18-year-old Christopher Pritchett. Instead of a simple exchange of firearms, the encounter turned violent when McNair and Pritchett allegedly decided to rob Blinco and Trotter. In the ensuing chaos, shots were fired. Deonta Blinco was killed at the scene, while Javionne Trotter sustained critical injuries and later died at a local hospital.
The investigation into the double homicide led Detroit police to identify David McNair and Christopher Pritchett as the primary suspects. Both teenagers were subsequently arrested and faced a litany of serious charges. These included first-degree premeditated murder, felony murder, armed robbery, and carrying a concealed weapon. As the case proceeded through the legal system, both McNair and Pritchett were held without bond at the Wayne County Jail.
During the trial, witness testimony revealed that the intention of McNair and Pritchett was to rob the victims rather than engage in the agreed-upon gun swap. The evidence presented led to the conviction of David McNair on multiple counts, including two counts of first-degree felony murder, second-degree murder, and armed robbery. For these crimes, he was sentenced to a term of 40 to 60 years for each of the first-degree felony murder convictions. Christopher Pritchett was also charged in connection with the murders.
