In the spring of 2018, the life of 19-year-old Christopher 'Jack' Marsh Jr., a former wrestler for Eastern Michigan University, was tragically cut short. On the evening of April 28th, in the parking lot of the Glencoe Hills Apartments in Pittsfield Township, near Ann Arbor, Marsh was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, but tragically succumbed to his injuries.
The initial investigation by the Pittsfield Township Police Department pointed to a pre-arranged meeting for a narcotics transaction that had turned into a fatal robbery.
The investigation into the death of the young Ypsilanti Township resident was intensive. Detectives were able to identify numerous suspects and persons of interest. A major breakthrough in the case came on October 2, 2018, when a coordinated operation involving multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Michigan State Police and the Washtenaw County Metro SWAT team, executed 11 search warrants across Washtenaw County, Canton Township, and the Grand Rapids area. This extensive operation resulted in the arrest of several individuals in connection with Marsh's murder.
Ultimately, six young men were charged in the violent death of Christopher Marsh Jr. The suspects were identified as Garvin Crout, Deandre Hinton, Karon Hadden, Charles Robertson, Camron Williams-Evans, and Marquez Williams. The group faced a range of serious charges, including conspiracy to commit armed robbery and assault with intent to rob while armed. As the legal process unfolded, all six of the accused eventually accepted plea deals rather than proceeding to a jury trial, bringing a form of legal closure to the case. Among them, Marquez Williams pleaded guilty to seven charges which included the grave offense of second-degree murder. Camron Williams-Evans entered a guilty plea to charges of conspiracy to commit armed robbery and assault with intent to rob while armed, and he was scheduled for sentencing in November 2019. The resolution of the case through these plea agreements marked the culmination of the investigation into the senseless killing of the promising former university athlete.
