In the summer of 2019, the community of Kalamazoo, Michigan, was shaken by the tragic death of Shequita Lewis, a 33-year-old mother of nine. On July 15, 2019, Lewis was found with a gunshot wound to the chest in her home on North Church Street. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
