Thomas Hector Chavez was born in Lansing, Michigan on June 28, 1959, to Jesus and Gregoria Chavez. He was a graduate of Harry Hill High School and had a career at General Motors until his retirement in 2008.
Described as a hardworking man, he was skilled in carpentry and home renovations. He was a father and grandfather who enjoyed attending concerts and going to the beach.
On that Friday in July, what began as a verbal argument escalated tragically. Joey Chavez fatally shot his father. Police were called to the scene, and the 33-year-old was taken into custody. Subsequently, Joey Chavez was charged with the murder of his father.
