Bennie Etter Scroggins, an 87-year-old woman from Saginaw, Michigan, was fatally shot on December 12, 2020. A lifelong resident of Saginaw, she was a retiree who had worked for 26 years at the CAC Building. Known for her love for her family, especially her grandchildren, she also enjoyed trips to the casino and watching cowboy movies.
Following the shooting, her 29-year-old grandson, Damarcus D. Scroggins, was arrested in connection with her death.
He was charged with open murder and felony firearm. The incident that led to her death was reported to have occurred at her home on South 12th Street.
Damarcus D. Scroggins was arraigned on the charges in Saginaw County District Court. At the time of his arraignment, he was denied bond and remained in the custody of the Saginaw County Jail. The legal proceedings against him were set to continue in the county's court system.
