Cormon Amarion Demond Brewer, a 23-year-old Black male from Flint, Michigan, was a man who cherished his family and was known for his loyalty. He was a father to a daughter, Ariel King, and held a close relationship with his mother, Vionsha Brewer, who was considered his best friend. His interests included raising dogs, freestyling, and a fondness for fashion, particularly new designer apparel and shoes.
He was employed at a Toyota facility in Kentucky and was a member of the Divine Deliverance Ministries in his hometown.
On the night of May 5, 2021, the course of Cormon's life was tragically cut short. Just before 1:00 AM, officers from the Flint Township Police Department responded to reports of gunfire in the 3100 block of Hatherly Avenue. Upon their arrival, they discovered evidence of a violent encounter: bloodstains and spent shell casings in a driveway. A short time later, Cormon was brought to McLaren Hospital, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced deceased.
The investigation that followed the shooting led to the identification and arrest of two suspects. Raekwon Watkins, then 22 years old, was apprehended after he sought treatment for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound at Hurley Medical Center. He was subsequently charged with carrying a concealed weapon. Another man, 24-year-old Jaquarius Johnson, was also taken into custody and faced several charges, including carrying a concealed weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, and felon in possession of ammunition. The Flint Township Police Department, with assistance from other local law enforcement agencies, has continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding Cormon Brewer's death.
