In the early morning hours of May 8, 2021, the life of 26-year-old Michael Allen Tripp was tragically cut short in Frenchtown Township, Michigan. Deputies on patrol near Nadeau Road and I-75 were drawn to the area by the sound of a single gunshot around 3:15 a.m. Their search led them to the entrance of the Pleasantville Mobile Home Community, where they discovered Tripp lying wounded in the roadway at the intersection of Pleasantville and George drives. He was rushed to Beaumont Hospital in Trenton, but he succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators soon pieced together the events of that fatal morning, revealing a volatile situation rooted in a love triangle. Tripp, a resident of Newport, had gone to the mobile home of Austin Corey-Jordan Green, 21, and Riley Morgan Young, 20. An altercation ensued, reportedly after Tripp was asked to leave the residence. A witness described seeing Young pursue Tripp as he ran towards the entrance of the mobile home park, catching up to him and physically assaulting him. Green then joined the confrontation, arguing with Tripp before the situation escalated to a physical fight. It was at this point that Green allegedly drew a handgun and fired a single shot, striking Tripp approximately 86 yards from the couple's home.
In the immediate aftermath, law enforcement located Green and Young nearby and took them into custody. They were lodged in the Monroe County Jail. The investigation revealed that the three individuals were known to each other. Austin Green was subsequently charged with one count of homicide, open murder, and one count of felony firearm and was held without bond. During court proceedings, it was noted that Green, who had described Tripp as a 'very dear friend,' made no attempt to render aid to Tripp after the shooting.
