In the summer of 2021, a life was tragically cut short in a parking lot in Pittsfield Township, Michigan. Deyrl Timothy Banks II, a 35-year-old Black or African American male from Romulus, was fatally shot on June 16, 2021, outside the Ichiban Restaurant on Washtenaw Avenue. The incident is believed to have started as a road rage altercation or a verbal dispute that escalated with horrifying speed.
Following the shooting, Banks managed to drive himself to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The initial investigation by the Pittsfield Township Police Department suggested that the shooting stemmed from a dispute between Banks and two suspects. For a time, the case remained unresolved, leaving a grieving family and community searching for answers. The investigation faced challenges, including tracking down the vehicles and individuals involved in the initial confrontation. A funeral service was held at Caver Memorial Chapel, and he was interred at Detroit Memorial Park West.
Years later, a significant development brought renewed hope for justice. On July 17, 2025, authorities arrested Marvin Ramirez Sullivan, a 33-year-old resident of Ypsilanti Township, in connection with the fatal shooting. The Washtenaw County Prosecutor's Office subsequently charged Sullivan with open murder, felony firearm, and carrying a concealed weapon. During his arraignment, he was denied bond. Law enforcement has indicated that the investigation into the death of Deyrl Timothy Banks II remains ongoing.
