In the quiet community of Stanwood, Michigan, a devastating series of events unfolded on May 27, 2022, leading to the tragic death of three-year-old Joshua Gabriel Pluto Gillard. Known affectionately as 'Pluto,' Joshua was a joyful boy who loved playing with his Matchbox cars and riding his big wheel. His life, along with those of his mother and siblings, was cut short in a violent act that shook the small town.
On that Friday afternoon, Mecosta County Sheriff's deputies responded to a
report of a man with a gun and shots fired at a residence in Austin Township. Upon their arrival, they discovered a horrific scene. Inside the home, Joshua, his 40-year-old mother Dawn Gillard, his six-year-old sister Katelynn, and his four-year-old brother Ronald were all found deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.
The suspect in the quadruple homicide was identified as the children's father and Dawn's husband, Charles V. Gillard. Authorities found him at the scene with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition and survived his injuries. Following his recovery, Charles Gillard was taken into custody and faced multiple felony charges for the deaths of his wife and children.
