George Jedrey, a 79-year-old man, was found dead on April 22, 2026, inside a home in the Stanwood, Michigan area, near Canadian Lakes in Mecosta County. What began as a welfare check turned into the discovery of a family tragedy after a concerned relative contacted authorities because she had been unable to reach her brother or her parents.
Deputies with the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office were sent to the residence around 10:30 a.m.
When the responding deputy arrived, the home appeared locked and secure. Vehicles belonging to the residents were in the driveway, and there were no obvious signs of forced entry, tampering, or exterior damage. During an exterior check of the property, the deputy looked through a window and saw a body on the floor. Authorities then entered the home and found three people deceased inside.
The victims were identified as George Jedrey, his wife Betty Jedrey, and their son Thomas Pinard. Reports described the scene as involving apparent gunshot wounds, and investigators said evidence found inside the home led them to believe the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide involving a firearm. Pinard was described as the homeowner, and his parents had reportedly been living with him for years while he served as their primary caretaker.
Authorities indicated that the preliminary belief was that Pinard killed his parents before taking his own life. Investigators did not report evidence that anyone else had been present or involved, and the sheriff’s office said there was no indication of an ongoing threat to the public. No outside suspect was being sought.
No arrests were made, because the suspected perpetrator was found dead at the scene. There were no reported charges, trial proceedings, or convictions connected to the case. The Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office said the matter remained under investigation and that investigators had not determined what led to the shooting. Local reporting also noted that police had not previously been called to the home for disturbances, adding to the shock felt by neighbors who described the family as kind and the violence as deeply unexpected.
