In the summer of 2022, a tragic incident cut short the life of Brittany Young, a 35-year-old female resident of South Bend, Indiana. On the afternoon of July 24th, in Howard Township, Michigan, near the city of Niles, a firearm Brittany was handling discharged.
Emergency services were called to a residence on Detroit Road around 3:26 p.m. Upon arrival, first responders found that Young had sustained a fatal injury. Despite the efforts of emergency personnel at the scene, she succumbed to the wound.
An investigation by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office concluded that the shooting was accidental. According to the initial findings, the firearm discharged unintentionally as Brittany was in the process of moving it into the house. Due to the nature of the incident being classified as an accident, authorities did not identify any suspects and no arrests were made in connection with her death. The investigation involved multiple agencies, including the Howard Township Fire Department and the Michigan State Police.
