In the quiet coastal city of Long Beach, Mississippi, a domestic disturbance call on May 6, 1998, shattered the evening peace and ended in a hail of gunfire that left two police officers dead. One of the fallen was Detective James Franklin Northcutt, a 54-year-old veteran of law enforcement who had been with the Long Beach Police Department for a year, capping a 33-year career.
