On March 11, 1999, Prentiss County Sheriff's Deputy Michael Dale Hisaw, a 27-year-old male, was shot and killed in the line of duty. He was responding to a 911 call regarding a disturbance involving an armed man attempting a burglary at a residence on County Road 8401, located three miles northwest of Jumpertown. Deputy Hisaw was familiar with the suspect from previous encounters.
