In the quiet town of Rolling Fork, Mississippi, the life of 39-year-old Eric Williams was violently cut short on the night of March 29, 2014. What began as a terrifying home invasion at his Central Avenue residence ended in his tragic death, leaving a family traumatized and a community in shock. That evening, a group of men, later reported to be as many as four, forced their way into Williams' home, holding his family hostage.
During the harrowing ordeal, Williams was shot, the fatal wound striking him in the right eye. He was discovered in the carport of his home and was pronounced dead at the scene around 10:30 p.m.
The investigation into the brutal slaying revealed a calculated and cold-blooded plot. The assailants had posed as Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics agents to gain entry into the Williams' home, where they held his girlfriend and her four children at gunpoint while demanding money and drugs. While his girlfriend was assaulted during the invasion, the children were physically unharmed. In the ensuing chaos, Eric Williams came home and was fatally shot as he reportedly tried to fight off the attackers.
The search for those responsible launched a massive manhunt that extended beyond the borders of Mississippi. Investigators were eventually able to identify multiple people of interest, leading to a string of arrests. In total, seven individuals were taken into custody in connection with the home invasion and murder. One of the first suspects to be publicly identified was Brandon Gilmore, who was charged with murder. The other suspects were located in various locations, with some being found in Texas and others scattered across the Mississippi towns of Hazelhurst and Crystal Springs. All seven suspects were ultimately charged with capital murder for their roles in the death of Eric Williams.
