In the early morning hours of November 29, 2015, the quiet of a Waveland, Mississippi neighborhood was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Inside his home on Dicks Street, 42-year-old Jason Duffy, a Caucasian male, was the victim of a violent intrusion. One or more assailants kicked in the front door of his residence at approximately 4:00 a.m. and shot him multiple times. Neighbors, startled by the commotion, alerted the Waveland Police Department.
When officers arrived, they found Duffy suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the head. He was rushed to Memorial Hospital in Gulfport, but his injuries proved to be fatal.
The investigation into Jason Duffy's murder began immediately, with law enforcement officials working to piece together the events of that tragic morning. The crime scene was cordoned off with yellow tape as investigators scoured the area for evidence. In the days following the shooting, police appealed to the public for information, hoping to identify a suspect in what was the city's first murder in two years. Despite their efforts and interviews with numerous people, a person of interest was not immediately identified. The case was further complicated by Duffy's personal history, which included a previous relationship with a woman who had been killed in a hit-and-run accident months prior, though police stated they did not believe the two deaths were connected.
As the investigation continued, Waveland police released a video to the public showing individuals walking toward Duffy's home around the time of the murder and then running away shortly after. This effort to generate new leads, however, did not result in a breakthrough in the case. In the years that have passed since Jason Duffy's violent death, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly named. His murder remains an unsolved cold case, a source of ongoing pain for his family and a lingering mystery in the community. Authorities continue to ask for anyone with information to come forward, in the hope that one day justice will be served for Jason Duffy.
