In what was determined to be a tragic murder-suicide, 26-year-old Darryl Davis, a Hinds County deputy, was found dead in Madison, Mississippi, on March 15, 2017. The Madison County Sheriff's Department discovered his body alongside that of his 28-year-old girlfriend, Lakrisna 'Kris' Myers, at her home in the Northwind subdivision. Concerns were raised after both Davis and Myers failed to show up for their respective jobs.
Upon entering the residence to conduct a welfare check, deputies found both individuals deceased in the family room. The investigation that followed, led by the Madison County Sheriff's Department, concluded that Myers shot and killed Davis before turning the gun on herself. The Madison County Coroner, Alex Breeland, officially ruled Davis's death a homicide and Myers's death a suicide.
The weapon used in the incident was identified as a 9-mm semi-automatic handgun that belonged to the Hinds County Sheriff's Department. Investigators learned that the couple had been in a relationship and that there had been at least one previous domestic disturbance call to Myers's residence, although no physical violence was reported in that instance. Colleagues and friends were shocked by the event, remembering Davis as a dedicated officer and Myers as a good nurse. With the case determined to be a murder-suicide, no further suspects were sought, and the investigation was closed.
