Toccara May, a 35-year-old female, was tragically killed on May 27, 2017, in a violent shooting spree that terrorized the Bogue Chitto and Brookhaven communities in Mississippi. She was one of eight innocent victims whose lives were cut short that day by the actions of a single gunman. The devastating event unfolded over several hours, leaving a trail of grief and loss that deeply scarred the local community.
The man responsible for this horrific act was identified as Willie Cory Godbolt. The string of killings began as a result of a domestic dispute. Over the course of his rampage, Godbolt targeted multiple locations, claiming the lives of a sheriff's deputy, as well as several of his own relatives and acquaintances. Toccara May, along with her sister Brenda May and their aunt Barbara Mitchell, were among those senselessly murdered.
Following the shooting spree, Godbolt was apprehended by law enforcement. In February 2020, he stood trial for his crimes. A jury found him guilty of four counts of capital murder and four counts of murder. He also faced charges of attempted murder, kidnapping, and armed robbery. For the deaths of Toccara May, Brenda May, Barbara Mitchell, and Ferral Burage, Godbolt received a sentence of life in prison. For the four capital murder convictions, which included the death of a law enforcement officer, he was sentenced to death.
