In the small town of Durant, Mississippi, a Friday evening turned tragic, ending the life of 23-year-old Travis Sumerall. On the night of October 13, 2017, an argument broke out outside the Green Lantern Bar and Grill. The dispute escalated, and gunfire erupted between Sumerall and another man.
Emergency services were called to the scene around 8:30 p.m., and Sumerall was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment of his gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
In the wake of the shooting, the Durant Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide. Their inquiries quickly led to a suspect, 20-year-old Demarqus Williams. Williams was taken into custody by authorities and subsequently charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Travis Sumerall.
