In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Magnolia, Mississippi, a burst of violence shattered the weekend calm and left a community in mourning. On January 15, 2017, Prentiss Jackson, a 45-year-old man, was fatally shot at the Sin City nightclub on Church Road in Pike County. The incident, which occurred around 2 a.m., also resulted in injuries to four other individuals.
Jackson suffered multiple gunshot wounds and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The investigation into the deadly shooting led authorities to two suspects. Derric Hall, a resident of Magnolia, was apprehended and faced serious charges, including one count of murder and four counts of attempted murder. During the investigation, Hall reportedly admitted to firing his weapon inside the nightclub. He claimed that the shooting stemmed from an argument that had escalated into a physical altercation where he was assaulted by several people. According to his account, after being followed, he retrieved a firearm from his vehicle and began shooting, only stopping when he saw people falling.
A second suspect, Laxavier Addison, was also taken into custody in connection with the incident. Addison was charged with conspiracy to commit murder. Both Hall and Addison were booked into the Pike County Jail, with their bonds set at $700,000 each. The local community closely followed the legal proceedings as they sought justice for Prentiss Jackson and the other victims of the tragic event.
