On the evening of Wednesday, February 28, 2018, 18-year-old NyeCole Marioneaux and his 17-year-old sister, Kaia, were shot and killed inside their home. A third sibling, Kaia's twin brother, was also shot during the incident but managed to survive his injuries. The tragedy unfolded during what was described as a card game.
The aftermath of the shooting left the local community in shock and a mother devastated by the loss of two of her children. A suspect, 23-year-old Farena Da'Quain Harris, was quickly identified and apprehended by the Rankin County Special Response Team on the same night as the killings. The surviving victim told investigators that Harris had been acting 'unusual' and 'very fidgety' before the shooting.
