Law enforcement officials were initially called to the scene following reports of a domestic dispute. Just before their arrival around 1:30 a.m., a second call to dispatch indicated that a firearm was involved. Officers in the vicinity heard the gunshots as they approached the home. Upon their arrival, they discovered a harrowing scene. In the front yard of the residence, a woman was found with two gunshot wounds. Though conscious and able to provide some information to investigators, she was in critical condition and immediately airlifted to a hospital in Jackson for treatment.
Further investigation at the scene led to the discovery of two more individuals. Inside an SUV parked in the driveway, officers found Mary Kathryn Robertson. She had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene. Lying beside the vehicle was 31-year-old Charles McCrary, who had sustained what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was also deceased.
Investigators believe the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute between McCrary and Robertson, who were reportedly in a relationship. The evidence suggests that McCrary shot Robertson and the other woman before taking his own life. As the sole suspect in the shootings died at the scene, no arrests were made in connection with the deaths of Mary Kathryn 'Kat' Robertson and the injuries sustained by the other victim.
