In the winter of 2019 in Columbus, Mississippi, a young man's life was cut short in an abandoned house. Xavier Traveon Dora, an 18-year-old male, was fatally shot on the afternoon of December 19th. The incident occurred near the intersection of 17th Street and Fifth Avenue South, where investigators believe at least five individuals were gathered when a dispute escalated into gunfire.
Dora was rushed to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, but he succumbed to his injuries later that night while undergoing surgery. Another person at the scene sustained non-life-threatening injuries but was not publicly identified by authorities.
The investigation into Dora's death quickly led to arrests. Within a day of the shooting, the Columbus Police Department, with assistance from the West Point Police Department, apprehended 18-year-old Shaquavus Lashun White of West Point. He was subsequently charged with manslaughter in connection with Dora's death and was held at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center. Police indicated that more arrests could be forthcoming as the investigation continued.
A second suspect was taken into custody in early January 2020. Damorio Sanchez Price-Ewing, 19, also from West Point, was arrested in Monroe County. He faced a charge of accessory after the fact. Investigators had previously sought public assistance in locating Price-Ewing before he was apprehended. Like White, he was booked into the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center. While police confirmed Price-Ewing's alleged involvement, the specific actions that led to the charge were not publicly detailed.
