On a late winter's evening, the life of 30-year-old Lamar Henry of Waveland, Mississippi, came to a violent end. The initial report on March 1, 2020, suggested a shooting in Gulfport, Mississippi, but the ensuing investigation would unravel a story that crossed state lines and was rooted in a planned robbery gone awry. Henry, a male, was brought to a hospital in Bay St.
Louis with multiple gunshot wounds, where he was pronounced dead.
The man who transported him to the hospital, 26-year-old Lamar Hargett, initially told detectives that the incident occurred in Gulfport. However, as investigators from both the Gulfport Police Department and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office delved deeper, a different narrative emerged. They discovered that in the early morning hours of March 1st, Henry and Hargett had traveled to Slidell, Louisiana, with the intention of robbing a man named Trequan Rollins. Their plan went sideways when Rollins spotted them parked near his residence on Ash Drive.
What followed was a frantic chase through the streets of Slidell as Henry and Hargett fled in their vehicle with Rollins in pursuit. During the chase, gunfire was exchanged between the two cars, and in the chaos, Lamar Henry was fatally struck. The investigation led to the arrest of Lamar Hargett on March 12, 2020; he was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and transferred to the St. Tammany Parish Jail.
Trequan Rollins was also taken into custody on March 12 on unrelated charges. By March 23, an arrest warrant was issued for Rollins in connection with Henry's death, and he was booked on a slew of serious charges, including first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, illegal discharge of a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
