In the small town of Derma, Mississippi, a Friday afternoon erupted in violence, leaving one man dead and another injured. On May 22, 2020, Evander Holmes, a 26-year-old male, was fatally shot on Underwood Street following a heated argument. The incident began with a confrontation between Holmes and another individual, Anthony Prescott.
During the course of their dispute, Holmes allegedly struck Prescott in the head with a firearm.
The impact caused the weapon to discharge, and a bullet struck Prescott in the neck. In a sudden turn of events, a third man, Julian Boyd, is said to have picked up the gun and fired at Holmes, striking him in the neck as well. Evander Holmes died from his injuries.
Following the shooting, law enforcement officials were called to the scene. An investigation into the deadly encounter led to the arrest of Julian Boyd, who was subsequently charged with murder. A judge set Boyd's bond at five hundred thousand dollars. Anthony Prescott was hospitalized for the injuries he sustained in the altercation.
