On a Wednesday evening in Derma, Mississippi, the life of 34-year-old Anthony Armstrong was tragically cut short. The events of April 27, 2022, unfolded when Armstrong, a resident of nearby Vardaman, was visiting a friend's home. An argument escalated into gunfire, and Armstrong was shot multiple times.
Wounded, Armstrong fled the scene, desperately seeking help. He ran to a neighboring house on Terry Drive and collapsed on the front porch.
Despite the homeowner's immediate call for assistance, Armstrong succumbed to his injuries before aid could arrive. The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office was notified of the shooting at approximately 8 p.m.
The investigation quickly pointed to a suspect: 36-year-old Taurus Shaw of Calhoun City. A warrant for first-degree murder was issued for Shaw, and a manhunt was initiated by the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office and U.S. Marshals. Less than a week later, on May 3, 2022, Shaw was located and apprehended at a motel on McCullough Boulevard. The motive for the shooting has been described as an argument that turned deadly.
