A 34-year-old man, Christopher L. Smith of Holly Springs, Mississippi, was fatally shot on the night of Tuesday, June 16, 2020. The incident occurred at the Super 8 Motel located at 11064 Business Center Drive in Olive Branch. Olive Branch Police responded to a shots fired call at the motel shortly after 9 p.m. Upon their arrival, officers found Smith unresponsive with a gunshot wound. He died from his injuries.
The investigation led police to identify 22-year-old Darius A.
Braddock of Bolivar, Tennessee, as the suspect in the shooting. With assistance from the Hardeman County Sheriff's Office, Braddock was apprehended in Tennessee. He was charged with murder and was held in the Hardeman County Jail on a $1 million bond, awaiting extradition to Mississippi.
Christopher Smith was remembered by his family and friends, with funeral services held on Saturday, June 27, 2020, at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
