On that day, 21-year-old Tawon Jackson, a resident of nearby Clarksdale, was found inside a vehicle at the entrance of the East Park subdivision. Alongside him was 20-year-old Bruce Washington of Lyon. Both men had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
The Coahoma County Sheriff's Department received a call around 1:43 p.m.
and responded to the scene. Investigators determined that both Jackson and Washington had been shot while they were inside the car. Evidence at the scene, including numerous bullet holes predominantly on the passenger side of the vehicle, suggested a violent and sudden attack.
In the days following the double homicide, the investigation quickly led authorities to identify two suspects from Lyon: 32-year-old Albert Thomas and 22-year-old Trentavious Thomas. Arrest warrants were promptly issued for both men. On March 15, 2021, Albert Thomas surrendered to the authorities. The search for Trentavious Thomas continued.
