In the spring of 2021, a fatal confrontation unfolded in Scott County, Mississippi, involving 28-year-old Perry Lee Webb, a White/Caucasian male who was a lifelong resident of the Forest community. The incident occurred on Thursday, April 22, at a location along Highway 21, just north of the city limits. Webb, known to his friends and family for his love of mechanics, fishing, and country music, became embroiled in a heated disagreement that would ultimately cost him his life.
The dispute reportedly centered around a lawnmower engine and a small sum of money, believed to be approximately $20, connected to scrap work. Authorities indicated that the argument escalated when the suspect, identified as Jimmy Knowles, demanded either the money or the engine. As the verbal altercation intensified, Knowles allegedly retreated to his vehicle, retrieved a shotgun, and fired a single shot, striking Webb in the chest.
Law enforcement officers and emergency personnel responded to the scene, but Webb succumbed to his injuries at his residence that same day. Following the shooting, the Scott County Sheriff’s Department launched an investigation which led to the arrest of Jimmy Knowles. He was taken into custody and charged with murder in connection with Webb's death. Jail records subsequently indicated that Knowles was held without bond as the legal process against him commenced.
